A few words about my work
I usually paint people rather than landscapes or objects, using photographic images taken from the mass media, or by myself. Some are old pictures and document the past. I use these sources because it's easier, with the means I have, to obtain representations than to be there, but this limitation turns out to be useful. The evolution of the global market economy as a factor of social transformation, the fact that people are affected by the violence of processes that they do not understand and can not modify, creates concrete images that interest me.
It's no different from what has been done many times before, or what is now being done by many artists, nor is this a new question.
I was born in 1970 in Aveiro, Portugal, where I live with my wife.
On April 25, 2008, with three colleagues I founded Má Arte, an association of artists working in Aveiro.
